About Us Eye on NutritionTM was developed in partnership between the Vitamin & Nutraceutical Information Service (VNIS) and the American Optometric Association (AOA). VNIS was established in 1979 by what was then the Roche Fine Chemical Division of Roche Pharmaceuticals (now supported by DSM Nutritional Products, Inc.), as a source of reliable and credible information about vitamins for health and nutrition professionals and communicators. VNIS monitors and disseminates vitamin research, sponsors professional symposia on current vitamin topics and generates materials to educate professionals about the roles of vitamins in health. This site was created as a user-friendly tool to help patients and eye health specialists talk about nutrition and other risk factors for cataracts and AMD. We hope that Eye on Nutrition will help to raise awareness among health professionals and consumers alike about the eye-health benefits of the carotenoids lutein, zeaxanthin and beta-carotene and the vitamins E and C.
